A 2001 study by Harvard social science professor Nalini Ambady found that students were able to tell whether they liked a professor or not by watching a 10 second, silent video clip of the teacher.

"The impressions they form based on [the video clips] are pretty highly correlated with end-of-the-semester ratings by students who have actually taken the class."

5 Teaching with Technology Errors

  • Sage on a Stage
  • Bells and Whistles: Isn't that just PowerPoint?
  • Web 1.0 is just fine (a.k.a. - the webquest)
  • I don't have time for this!
  • We can't do that in my class (behavior, administration, access)

In this course, we will explore a number of ways to integrate technology into your daily teaching.  More than likely, you're already doing it.  The focus of this course, therefore, is not about learning new apps and sampling fun websites.  Instead, we'll focus on developing teaching methods that are most beneficial to our students and adaptable to ever changing educational technologies.  Part of this methodology involves addressing some common errors/misconceptions associated with technology use in the classroom.  - MM

Based on our activity and in class discussion, discuss (in the comments section) how you've fallen victim to one of the teaching with technology errors.
